Florence Apartments Apartment 2

External Description:
Located on the fourth floor, without elevator , 86 steps, of a building on Sdrucciolo dei Pitti. Near the building there are many restaurants where its possible to try typical Florentine cuisine. The apartment has been carefully restored and is on the last floor of the historical building.

Internal Description:
Modern apartment (80 /861 sq.ft) with 1 bedroom that can sleep up to 3 people and has 1 bathroom. On the left of the entrance there is the small but well furnished kitchen with a view of the Duomo and a small laundry area with a washing machine. On the right of the entrance there are steps that bring to the large living room with three windows that look upon the bell of Santo Spirito. Here the guests will find a couch and a dining room table that sits six people. The bedroom has a beautiful view of the main monuments in Florence: Duomo and Palazzo Vecchio. The bathroom with shower is modern and furnished with dark travertine. From the living room there are stairs that lead to the panoramic terrace with a 360° view of the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, Palazzo Pitti, and Santa Spirito Church. Here the guests can organize barbecues and eat in the shade under the tent that covers the table.

The apartment is located in the Oltrarno district in Florence’s historic city. The name “Oltrarno” literally means “beyond the Arno” and this district which stretches along the south bank of the river represents a different facet of Florence to that which is found near the Duomo. The Oltrarno perhaps displays the true character of Florence and in general is slightly quieter, greener and more relaxed than the other districts of Florence. Indeed many tourists tend to choose the Oltrarno for this reason. Traditionally an artisans’ quarter, the Oltrarno still boasts today many lovely antique shops and artisans’ studios (particularly furniture and leather-workers) and Via Maggio remains the focus of Florence’s thriving antiques trade.
Over time the Oltrarno became a rather chic area and many aristocrats chose this neighbourhood to build their villas and palaces, the largest of these being the Pitti Palace, which became the home of the various Grand Dukes. Today this sumptuous palace houses several important museums which rank amongst the best in Florence. Other major sights the Oltrarno has to offer are the Cappella Brancacciwith the fabulous frescoes of Masaccio, Piazzale Michelangelo with its breath-taking views over Florence, the magnificent church of San Miniato, (one of the highest points in the city of Florence and also one of the best examples of Romanesque architecture within Tuscany) together with the most famousand oldest bridge in Florence, Ponte Vecchio, home to a glittering array of jewellery shops and goldsmiths.

Extending up the hill from the Pitti Palace are the formal Boboli Gardens, an outdoor museum of garden sculpture that includes Roman antiquities as well as 16th and 17th century works. The Oltrarno is famous for its wine bars such as Olio & Convivium, authentic trattorias serving typical Tuscan cuisine, including Il Santo Bevitore, I 4 Leoni and Il Magazzino, not to mention the wonderful fresh produce market held every morning in Piazza Santo Spirito. For those choosing an apartment in this area the Oltrarno quarter also offers a choice of grocery stores, patisserie, bakeries, gift shops and much more.
